IBM Collectable

A silver propelling pencil which extends to form a 12” rule and a pointer. All sterling silver.

Bears engraving in fine script—IBM School No. 70 Mar 23, 1939

The following information was kindly supplied by IBM:

IBM Customer Administrative School No, 70  was a two week course which IBM held at its  Endicott, N.Y. facility in March 1939. Those attending represented life insurance companies in the U.S. and Canada  with IBM accounting machines. The course focussed on instruction and discussion on the applications of IBM equipment to particular problems in the life insurance business.

IBM held a graduation dinner for those attending at their Homestead facility in Endicott on March 23, 1939. This silver pencil was presented on that occasion. How many were given and to whom is not recorded. The letters G.G.M. have also been engraved on the pencil and possibly are the initials of  the original owner.

The pencil is in fine condition and working order even containing the lead.  Should anyone have

further information on this pencil, we would be happy to hear from them
